Production years: 1971-1974 This page is about cars built by Alpina as a car manufacturer. This page is not about cars upgraded later in their life. The original title of the car shows Burkard Bovensiepen (Alpina) as the builder. Built in different batches, sometimes just 2 or 3 cars were made of one batch , in total circa 14 cars, usually a stripe along the car says 3.0 CSL The early Alpina CSLs were based on the carb CSL, but equipped with Kugelfischer injection instead of carbs. Alpina CSLs were also equipped with a ZF 5-speed gearbox and a 3,89 final drive ratio (compared to 3,45 on standard carb CSL and 3,25 on injection CSL).
For Alpina, BMW´s presentation of the 3,0 CSL provided them with
superb advertisement for their products, because many of the
components on the CSL were Alpina-developed. Concurrent with the introduction of the CSL, Alpina gained greater access to BMW´s dealer network, now Alpina wheels, spoilers and accessories were sold and installed by BMW dealers. But the actual introduction of a fully-developed Alpina car was not made until 1978. That year Bovensiepen demonstrated the new car for a handful of journalists.it was the 3-series based Alpina B6 Courtesie M5 board
The B2 and B2S engines could be ordered from Alpina as late as 1979. Fuel injection was become much more popular though so the the B6 and B7 and B8 after 1978 became the popular choices. 192 B2 engines produced allocated to E3, E12, E9 (40 cars), E24 and certain approved Alpina dealer.
In vista dell’impiego agonistico, Alpina rivolge subito
l’attenzione alla 2800 CS: già nel 1969 presenta un’elaborazione
stradale, siglata 2800 CS B1 (due carburatori Solex, cambio a 5 marce ZF,
4 freni a disco, gli anteriori ventilati, assetto modificato, cerchi in
lega leggera 7x14 con disegno a raggi, 200 CV, 220 km/h). Quanto alla
carrozzeria, in genere si monta uno spoiler anteriore in alluminio o
vetroresina; vistose scritte “BMW Alpina” applicate sui parafanghi
anteriori svelano poi senza ombra di dubbio l’identità della vettura.
